Prized Rhododendron

Thursday as we turned into our neighborhood after driving home from Massachusetts my daughter practically gasped at the beauty before her. She said, everything is SO GREEN! It really caught me by surprise that she would notice the lush beauty of her home. She goes to school in the foothills of the beautiful Berkshires, however she says it does not hold a candle to home. I guess there really is no place like home.

We often take the everyday sights for granted so it is nice to be reminded. I actually always notice it (the incredible green) when we get back home after our week at the beach every summer. While the beach is lovely, I sure admire the lush green beauty of our neighborhood.

One of the most beautiful things in our yard is the huge rhododendron. My husband planted it about 18 years ago and it was about 4-5 feet tall. It has grown to about 11 feet by 11 feet and it explodes with flowers each May. Even when it is not draped in purple flowers I do enjoy the natural beauty of the shrub all year, and it is such a perfect natural screen for us on the side of the house up against the road.

Beth, you are lucky to have such a large yard. Your rododendrum is beautiful. I love gardens and flowers there is something so peaceful about looking at them. Thank you for your kind comments re: my husband and the job. I'm sure you understand.

Beth, what a beautiful yard. I grew up in the foothills of NC and live at the beach now. I miss the different growing seasons and lushness of four seasons.

Green !!! I just spent the weekend in Houston, It was so green and humid!! Living in the Southwest my eyes almost hurt when I go somewhere where there is so much green. My friend Juli's yard was very lush . I also remember years ago driving through Pennsylvania and seeing wild rhododendrons in the woods and another friend reminding me that the word ends with an "n" not an "m" as I always wanted to use, a mistake a think many make ... any ways your bush is magical!!

I should have taken another picture yesterday since it is now totally in bloom and it is a gray rainy day today. It looks so much more incredible now than in the picture and I love it. A little more rain to keep things green right?!
